Over the past few days, video footage has surfaced revealing the extensive damage inflicted on a LATAM Airbus A320 after it traversed through hail, either within or right beside a severe thunderstorm. It should be noted that both scenarios – being near a thunderstorm or inside one – can be highly destructive. It suffices to say that it is a remarkable testament to the pilots who accidentally entered the storm that they were capable of safely landing the aircraft, despite the absence of the radar dome, which, as you can observe, was demolished by what must have been large hailstones.

The flight originated from Santiago, Chile, and was en route to Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. Due to weather conditions, it diverted to an airport in Brazil. After taking off once again, it encountered the severe weather. There are conflicting reports regarding injuries. Some accounts suggest that several passengers sustained serious injuries, while the airline stated in a statement that no one was harmed.
The plane itself endured significant damage, with the hail nearly shattering both windshields, making it almost impossible for the pilots to have a clear view ahead. Eventually, they managed to execute a successful emergency landing in Asunción. The authorities are currently investigating the incident.
